Unbreakable Friendship

A friend in need is a friend indeed.

~Quintus Ennius~

Once upon a time, there was a young boy called Juniper who is eager to seek adventures. He was born in Wenquevia, Rondov, and he spent his childhood travelling all over the world with his cheerful family. As he grew up, he became disciplined, sturdy, reliable, and kind boy. One day, his family came to a place called Dragonium, where dragons were roaming all over the place. No creature could survive in the land, but the adventurous family decided to take the risks and explore the environment. Juniper and his father guarded the family at night, watching out for any signs of danger around them. One night, while Juniper and his father, Hendrix Fire, were protecting the tents, a terrifying roar startled the family. Juniper and Hendrix decided to discover what happened. So they skillfully listened for the echo around the mountains, trying hard to locate the noise. At last they found it and started running to the center of the land.

They ran for hours, never stopping for a break, until sunrise. Finally, they arrived at their destination, and carefully, they peered out from the wild berry bushes and saw... A mother dinosaur and 4 handsome dinos!! A bright blue colored baby dinosaur spotted Juniper and trotted over to him. The mother dinosaur did not notice her hatchling running away, so she went away to hunt food. Juniper and Hendrix headed back to the tents and reported what they saw. Juniper felt a tug on his pants....

"Ooooooo! Father, Mother, look! This little lad over here followed me here!" He cried.

SUMMER - POEM BY RUTH CHUA

  Summer

The aroma of summer

Drifts beyong the fields.

The daffodils and sunflowers

Sprouting eagerly under the fir tree's shield.

Squirrels and rabbits and Sameryhoods

Chattering excitedly among themselves

Chasing and hopping amidst the woods.

O, summer, everyone is ready for your arrival.

When a soothing wind blew across the trees

Like fingers tickling your face.

The coldness of winter ceased

For dear summer defeated winter

And returned in triumphant.

The Story of an Abandoned Child

 1

One snowing night, when I was returning home from my office, I heard a sweet music coming from Singing Gem Square.

"Just as I am, a lonely child.
Shiv'ring with cold, and thin as rake..."

Sang a poor girl on the corner of a crowded street.

Her name was Eleanor, aged 9, born in a rich family at Krosan, Rondov. Her twinkling, bright blue eye shone in the frosty night, and her pretty face pale with coldness.

She was wearing a raged dress, torn and dirty. People passing by were not interested by her beauty, so no one gave her any coins for singing.

She lost her family after an accident. Her sisters Froya and Petra, and her brother Peter disappeared after the accident but they're harsh to her so Eleanor don't feel sad with their disappearance.

You may be wondering about her parents. Well, let me tell you. Her parents, who loved their youngest daughter Eleanor, lost contact with the world.. It happened a long time ago, when Eleanor and her family was going for a vacation...

 2

"Hurry up, dears! We're leaving in five minutes!" Mother called, "Peter and Froya! Come help with those luggages! Petra, help Ella pack her stuffs! Quickkkk!" Petra grinned slyly and ran swiftly to her sister Eleanor, or Ella.

   BamWent Eleanor's cloths.

  CRASH!  There goes her teddy!

  WHAM! In with her books!

ZeoopppPetra zipped up her sister's luggage roughly.

"What's all that crashing for, Petra?" Peter demanded, "Please do be quiet. Papa's trying to rest for a while before the trip!" Petra laughed and wandered away dreamily. Soon, three enormous luggages piled up in front of the door.

Some times later, they set out for the trip. First, they went to the bus station to catch the bus 306. Then, arriving at New Mars Street, they hurried to Tainer's Train Station to go to Dandelion City. Finally, they came to the airport called Three Triangle Trees. Then they boarded a plane, Butterflight.

Everyone were very happy on the plane. The children had fun playing with the plane's window, sliding it

UP
&
   DOWN.

Ella sat between Mother and Father, also enjoying herself thoroughly. Father ordered "Fishy Chips" and a watermelon juice from the children's menu for his favorite daughter Ella. Mother turned on some music from the plane's VIP service. One CD track would cost 15 dollars, but Ella's mother wouldn't mind because it's for her beloved darling Eleanor.

The plane was almost at their destination when suddenly, with a terrifying noise, the plane started to spin round and round like mad! Eleanor clung on to her Father and her Mother clung on to her. Peter, Petra, and Froya held on to their seats.

  "EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!
EVERY PASSENGER PLEASE LISTEN!"

a loud, booming voice came through a speaker,

"PLEASE UNBUCKLE YOUR SEATBELTS
AND TAKE OUT THE LIFE JACKETS UNDER YOUR SEAT.
PUT IT ON AND GO TO THE EMERGENCY EXIT.
LASTLY, PLEASE REMAIN CALM."

Ella's family immediately snatched out the lifejackets under them. They called to their eldest son and soon the whole lot of passengers were parachuting down to land. All of a sudden, a strong wind blew at the parachuters, making them shake furiously.

"Aaaaaargh!! Leo!!!" Ella heard her mother calling to Papa.  "Liana!!!" Cried her father in reply. That's the last time Eleanor heard their voices. Something hard hit her parent's parachute and their parachute broke into half. Then they fell in a horrible speed to the ground.

Eleanor gasped. Her heart broke into pieces, and she moaned. She landed peacefully at a city, and wandered away helplessly. That's when she found herself in a forest...

 3

Now it's time for me to stop and let Eleanor tell her story.
 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone, my name is Eleanor. You can call me Ella if you like. I lived at Singing Gem Square with my pet wolves, Fortuna and Lucky. I tamed them a long time ago, when I was wandering in the forest.

I was five years old that time, ignorant and helpless. I wandered around the forest and took a stone as a weapon. I killed bears, boars, and bulls, using the stone. I continued this kind of life like a barbarian for one year.

The next year, I almost got killed by a pack of wolves! Luckily, I survived. Thanks to the stone. I started craving stone swords and daggers to protect myself from the wild animals. I was seven that year.

One day, as I was hunting for food, I saw two weak wolf cubs attacked by a bear. I rushed to help the cubs and killed the bear in no time. After the incident, the cubs followed me around the forest, so I made them my pets and named them.

I survived for four years in the forest, I decided it's time for me to live more like modern girl. So I found my way out of the forest (I know the way very well!) and roamed through the countryside with my wolves.

Finally, I came to a city called Gembrook. Following the citizens inside the city, I found myself in Singing Gem Square and began my business of singing. This job did not make much money, but at least I can buy food for me and my wolves.

One day, as I was travelling down the street to buy sandwich, I bumped into a gentleman. I apologized heartily, but the gentleman seem not to be angry. He smiled kindly at me and asked where my parents are.

I told him they died after an accident and he took pity on me. Mr. Rahman, that's his name, invited me to work in his Cafe, with

1000 dollars salary per month!

I excitedly agreed and started my new life with a proper job.

 4

Now I am still working at Mr. Rahman's cafe, working as a waitress. Mr. Rahman is very kind. He let me keep my wolves and even gave them jobs, too! Fortuna and Lucky are supposed to entertain our customers and make the customers come again next time to play with the wolves.

Some parents were worried to let their kids play with wolves, but after they saw that my wolves are harmless, they were finally convinced to let their little ones play with Fortuna and Lucky.

I have my own house and a beautiful garden with a pool. Thanks to Mr. Rahman for the job. But yesterday, Mr. Rahman told me some bad news. His son, who drank too much beer last night, spent much of Mr. Rahman's money on rings for his friends who drank with him. Poor Mr. Rahman got bankrupt and he is forced to close his shop. We bid each other a sorrowful goodbye and Mr. Rahman promised he will try to make up the business again. Fortuna, Lucky, and I lost our jobs and wandered around the streets looking for a job again.

One day, I had a bright idea! Why don't I start a business myself? I've already accumulated enough money, so what's the problem if I start my very own business? So, leaving Fortuna and Lucky in my house, I went to the library to do some business research while thinking what business shall I do. Bakery? Cafe? Library? Supermarket? Maybe an Ice-Cream shop! I love Ice-Creams!! So I began to think of a fabulous name for my shop. Ice-creams are cold... Maybe Ella's Icy Delight? Clear Ice? Candy Penguin? Ahh! I know! Frozen Wolves will be cool! So that's that. I ran home, took a quick bath, and hurried to my office to start working on my idea. One day, two days, three days, four days...  After a week, I finally came out of my office.

"FORTUNA! LUCKY! LISTEN UP!!!!!!!!!!!" I shrieked, making my wolves jump. Fortuna whimpered and ran behind the sofa.

"Oh dear. I'm very sorry Fortuna. Come on out! I'm so excited!" I told her. Then I began telling them my plan (Although they don't understand anything). A few days later, I got my shop, and started setting up right away. My friends in Mr. Rahman's shop offered to help me. Exoca, Wira, Toyota, and Serena, who lost their jobs too, volunteered to be cashiers and Ice-Cream makers.

We met and discussed together for the whole week and the next Monday our first customer came in Frozen Wolves.

"Welcome to FrozenWolves, sir! What would you like to have?" Wira greeted our first customer warmly. The man smiled sorrowfully and pointed to his mouth, shaking his head. Wira showed a puzzled expression and brightened up suddenly! She communicated with the man with her hands using sign language. They "talked" for a little while, and Wira concluded to us, "He's deaf and mute. Poor man, he do have talents..." She explained that he is Caleb Quartz Johnson and he was a professional pianist who performed on stage every Monday evening until midnight. But one day he had a train accident and lost his hearing and voice. He retired from his job and began a quiet life with his sons.

 5

We felt awful for Mr. Johnson. Then, I suddenly thought of a TERRIFIC IDEA!! What's the problem if we give Mr. Johnson a job in our Ice-Cream shop, and his sons, too! So we served Mr. Johnson a Jumbo Frizzly Paradise set and I gathered all the staffs together to discuss if we can let Mr. Johnson a job in our shop. Everyone agreed to offer Caleb a job as pianist. Except Toyota.

"What are you missies thinking of? Are you going to let a deaf and mute man working in our shop?" Toyota retorted, "Hey, I'm not being rude, but.. Can you imagine a fellow who cannot hear in our shop, working, and when someone talk to him, he can't hear and the customer gets angry?"

We fell silent on the situation. Everyone's mind was filled with desperation. Then Exoca got an brilliant idea! She suggested hearing aids, but Toyata immediately point out that no one has the money to buy such a device! Exoca, who always looked on the bright side, insisted that we should combine our money together. A chorus of "Ahhh"s and "Oooo"s rang up at once. We merged our money together, each handing out 50 dollars. Exoca summed up the money together and it turned up to be 2000 dollars, twice the price of a hearing aid! Now Mr. Johnson could have a hearing aid for each of his ears instead of one.

We charged out of the meeting room and Wira concluded our plans to Mr. Johnson. His eyes filled with tears of gratefulness and delights. He responded to Wira in a long sign language message. Wira explained it to us, "Thank you for all your helps and offers, the word Thank You seems simple and plain, but it expressed my thoughts and gratitude." All of us felt contented and joyful for Mr. Caleb. It was a splendid day.

Well... I almost forgot to tell you about his sons! Actually, after we offered Mr. Johnson the hearing aids, his sons requested to let them work as violinists in the shop. We agreed, of course. So they began the very next day, performing the loveliest tune, "Coffee Cup". We got the hearing aid for Mr. Johnson the following week, which he put it on fondly as if it is a precious piece of jewel. His son, Anthony, left his daughter Almaria with his father, to help him communicate with customers and sing along with the tunes. So the Johnson family served in the shop as musicians.

 6

Everything were going on perfectly and it soon came to Christmas. Frozen Wolves had an event set, the Christmas Tree ice-cream set that time. Half of the workers had asked for a leave to celebrate Christmas with their family. The shop became lonely and quiet without the cheery staffs. I began to recall the Christmas 20 years ago, when Papa and Mama and Peter, Petra, Froya, and me ring around the Christmas tree. I felt hot in my eyes and a lump grew in my throat.

I shook my head, as if it could shake aways all my memories. A tear trickled down to my foot. BRUH, STOP IT, STUPID! YOU'RE NOT A BABY  I kept repeating it to myself. But it was no use. I started sobbing like a 5 years old kiddy. UGH.

The next morning came the second I opened my eyes. A stream of warm sunshine showered onto me like a waterfall. I leaped up and went to the window. The sun woke up from its cozy bed, and the moon greeted the sun as it lower down to the mountains. Birds sang a lovely melody, Tweet tweet tweet, Preep Preep Preep! Cars zoomed past the shop as though they're in a race. Beep beep! HONK HONK BEEEP!

IT'S CHRISTMAS!

I danced down the stairs, three at a time, and happily opened our Ice-Cream shop. Then I had a surprise! All my workers and their families squashed into the shop, shouting, "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" I laughed and Mr. Johnson grabbed his guitar and played, "Jolly Christmas Time". Soon the greatest surprise came to me!

A loud, long jingle came to my ear and Wira rushed to open it. I was confused why she grinned so widely.

"ELLA!" A familiar voice boomed into my ears, almost breaking my eardrums. "Eleanor, my dear princess!" Another sobbing sound floated in my ears as if a ghost spoke to me. When I recovered from the booming and floating sounds, I rubbed my eyes and can't believe my eyes!

I nearly fainted. When I spun around, two elders with silver hair looked fondly at me. I almost screamed!

“PA! MA!” I yelped, “I MISSED YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!”

They smiled and hugged me and I clung to them tightly and ordered Wira to serve them a lemon jumbo pack at once. Once they’re comfortable, Mama began telling me what happened since the plane crash.

“It’s a long story, dear. When I fell down to the ground, I found myself in a forest. Meanwhile, a famished tiger surveyed at me, as if deciding I’m better with rabbit blood or fish gills. I screamed and ran as fast as I can! I ran and ran, ran for an hour, I guess, and I finally got rid of that tiger. I wandered around, worrying for you and your siblings, and I found your father by the gooseberry bush munching on some berries. I called to him, and he offered me some fruits he found. We tried to work out where we were and your clever father realized that we’re in the middle of the Tasimarian Forest!” Her father nodded proudly and I grinned at him.

My mother continued, “As I was saying, we were trapped in the forest, helpless. One day, we saw a little girl looking EXACTLY like you, wandering about too! Behind her was two wolf cubs, playing around with each other. We considered of getting out from our hide, but I was afraid she would be scared of us and run away! So we stayed hidden until she skipped away. Oh yes, I heard her calling her wolves Fortuna and Lucky, if I remember it well.” I squealed excitedly and shouted for my wolves. “FORTUNA, LUCKY! COME AND MEET MY PARENTS!”

My father choked on his Lemon ice-cream set and squawked, “So it’s you, the little girl we saw in the forest? Oh, my, my, Liana! Why had we missed you, oh I’m so stupid!” Mama sighed and place a wrinkled hand on my shoulders. I grinned from ear to ear, saying, “Ahh Mama, it’s okay! Because you didn’t call me, I can have Fortuna and Lucky for my pets! Because you didn’t call me, I can work in Mr. Rahman’s cafe! Because you didn’t call me, I can learn to be independent and start my own business! It’s okay, really, though I missed you and Papa. Because you didn’t call me, I can end up in this glorious time!”

Soon Christmas was over, and Spring came. Time sped away, Summer was on her way. My business became even busier because it was so hot and I decided to add milkshakes to the menu because.. Why not? But everything changed because many other ice cream shops opened and no one was coming to my shop anymore. They were all going to the other ice cream shops with other fancy flavors like Caramel Popcorn, Sea Salt, Candy Banana, Soy Sauce, or even Pickles ice cream! Business was going downhill.

 8

Many workers in my store quit the job, but my fellow workers in Mr. Rahman's cafe refused to leave me alone even if I begged them to leave. I became poorer and poorer, so I decided to add fun features to my shop. During the weekly general meeting, I suggested my idea to the workers. We thought of giving free stuffs to customers who came to buy ice creams, adding a Kids Playground, and free weekly lessons to teach people how to make ice creams! So it was done.

Wira, Exoca and I were to teach Ice-Cream making, Almaria and Serena were the youngest in our shop, so they were assigned as "playmates" for the children. Of course, Fortuna and Lucky will be in the playground, too! Toyota and Anthony were to make and give balloons, ice cream cakes, puzzles, and books to the customers. Mr. Johnson and his second son worked as musicians, like always.

Serena and Almaria were having fun with the children at the kids playground. They played freeze tag, hide and seek, hopscotch, AEIOU and many more other games. The children were having fun. Serena and Almaria were having fun, too! it was perfect and business was getting better and better because the shop had everything the children could play with Serena and Almaria at the kids playground, while their parents could chat with each other while enjoying ice cream and milkshakes. Meanwhile, the ice-cream making section were lively too!

Anthony and Toyota worked hard in the kitchen. Blending, mixing, and battering were happening all at once. ZROOOOOOOOOM! TICK TICK TICK TICK! BAT BAT BAT BAT!  The table were full of chocolate and whipped cream.

“I wish all this hard work will accomplish something good..” Toyota said. Another batch of Ice-Cream cake were put on the table to cool. Anthony grinned like a Cheshire cat. He was enjoying it! They worked speedily and the cakes were done. They moved on to book writing and balloon making. Fortunately, they were good writers and illustrators. Fine novels and children books were ready on the shelves beside the entrance.

                            9

As for us, we are free of the time, because not many customers are coming to our store. One day, a family of seven came into our shop. The parents were quite young. They had 4 daughters and a son. The mother, first, and third daughter decided to learn how to make ice creams while the boy and the remaining daughters played with Serena, Almaria, Fortuna and Lucky. The father ordered apple milkshake and a honey ice cream. While the father was enjoying his milkshake, Exoca and I were teaching the mother, first and third daughter how to make chocolate ice cream. Serena, Almaria, Fortuna and Lucky was playing with the son and the other daughters and they found out the son was Daniel , the oldest was Rachel, the second was Ella, the third was Ruth and the youngest was Jonna.

Rachel and Ruth were having a great time learning how to make ice creams. They already tried Mocha, Coconut, and Oreo ice creams! We were pretty proud of them (Or ourselves?) and their mother was delighted. They spent the whole day at Frozen Wolves and soon evening came. They said goodbye and the father, we acknowledged later that he is Mr. Spark, promised to share with his friends about our Ice cream shop. Poor Fortuna whined at them, longing to play games again, and Daniel promised her that they will come back again. Wira patted her and we had dinner together, satisfied. We went to bed early that night, Looking forward to the next day.

                            10

That day was the busiest day for our ice cream shop. There were so many customers that we had to take out more tables just so we could fit more people. Suddenly, a handsome young man came into our shop. He went and set at the bar, ordered a blueberry milkshake and sat there grumpily. He finished the milkshake, paid, and left. On his way leaving, he knocked over the cups and boxes on the counters rudely, he even kicked the children’s brick castle that took them a long time to make. I noticed it and approached him to question him why he did that. He grumpily said in a deep voice “I don’t care, why would I, the son of the town’s Mayor, care about it?” I was deeply in anger of his rude and obnoxious behavior… I was so mad that I told him if he won’t stop this attitude, he would be banned from Frozen Wolves forever. Suddenly, he softens his tone and apologized sincerely, “I am so sorry. I was having a really bad day, and I couldn’t control my mood, so I made a serious mistake by being impolite to your staffs and the children.” I am a good-natured girl and didn’t want to make a tantrum of a small issue so I accepted his apologies and forgave him.

It rained heavily last night and a flood gushed around the area of Frozen Wolves. Most of our shops were ruined. The young man from yesterday came to our shop and saw the damages so he offered to help us save our shop together. It turns out his name was Tom Nicholas. He said he would ask his father to donate some money for Frozen Wolves to repair the damages. We thanked him heartily and he set off to inform his father. A half an hour later,he came back to inform us his father agreed to donate some money for Frozen Wolves’ to repair what had been damaged from the flood. We closed the shop for a week to clean up the mess the flood had made. My heart broke when I see all our efforts we put into this shop was destroyed overnight… Fortuna and Lucky seemed to understand what was going on and came slowly to my side as if to comfort me. A week later, we are finally able to reopen Frozen Wolves. The day of our reopening, Tom Nicholas and his father, Tim Nicholas came, leading a group of people behind them, cheering loudly and celebrating the reopening of their favorite dessert shop of all times! After the party was over, I asked Tom Nicholas why he helped us to repair our shop.

꧁༒༺ Xanda the Warrior ༻༒꧂

 Author: Ruth Chua Hak Yee

CHAPTER 1

"Xanda! Xan-da!" Came a voice from the kitchen.

A little boy about the age of ten ran to his foster mother, Mrs White. "Yes, Mar, are you calling me?"

"Urgh, not you, Xander, I'm looking for Xanda! Your Mother's bery creative, I must admit. Can't stand the way she named her child!" The old woman murmured.

"Mrs. White?" This is how the twins called their foster mother when they were not please at what she's talking about. "Mrs. White, you know Mother can't help it, right? This is how Rondovians name their children!"

"Hurgh...Tradition, Tradition, TRADITION!" Grumbled Mrs. White, "Whatever. Call your sister here at once!" Xander ran away.

"Uhhh... You calling me, Mar? Sorry I didn't hear you; I was in the garden with Xandia. " Xanda popped her head round the door.

"Go to the bakery and fetch some cakes for our tea. And STOP saying those Xander Xanda blah blah blah things in front of me!" said the annoyed foster mother. She frowned to herself and tried to calm down. Breath, breath.... Be calm and patient... The twins' mother, Damasira Kompar, was a lawyer in Rondov. She died in an accident when her children were three years old. Their father, Sir David, had been killed in the Battle of Canesa, just four years after Xander and Xanda's mother died.

Xanda fetched the cakes and prepared to head back home. Suddenly, someone hit her behind her head. She heard a faint blood-curdling cry... A strong, dreadful pain making her dizzy... She saw visions of herself being carried away by an angel... and everything turn into darkness...

                             CHAPTER 2

After Xanda fainted, somebody took the girl to the City of Rael. Curious glances turned to them and the mysterious man who carried Xanda avoided their glances. He went down a tunnel and arrived in....
꧁•⊹٭𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙳𝚊𝚛𝚔 𝙿𝚊𝚕𝚊𝚌𝚎٭⊹•꧂

Xanda panted heavily and struggled to sit. The cold and damp air around her made her teeth clatter. Drip drop drip drop. The leaking water pipe in the room was dripping. Xanda managed to stand up and she look around in alarm.

"Hello? Anyone here?" She called softly. No one answered. Xanda sighed. Spider webs were everywhere. The girl climbed on the broken bed and rested.

"I've done the job, master. She's already in the dungeon." sighed Bolt, "For the sake of His Majesty the King..." he sat down on the colorful carpet from India. His master rocked to and fro on the old, ancient rocking chair.

"Bring her before me. She will be a good warrior in the future." said the master, Blazen. So, the prisoner was brought to the room, helpless.

"Bow." commanded Bolt. The prisoner bowed clumsily and stumbled over. "Te-hehe-he." Giggled all the servants.

"SILENCE!" Blazen thundered, "How dare you all laugh at the mighty warrior that will save all of us one day?" The servants grew silent.

"L-let me o-o-ou-t of here... I want to go back home..." The prisoner panted, "I want Xander. I want Mar... And where am I..."

"I apologize for treating you so cruelly, but I have no choice. I know your name, and where you are living. I know all about your twin brother and all about you..." Blazen said gently, "I will tell you why you are here. Drink this." He held out a purple liquid that tasted like rotten egg. The prisoner drank it all because she was too thirsty to care about its taste. Once the liquid entered her throat, she dropped into a long, long sleep.

                             CHAPTER 3

Xanda appeared in a magnificent and noisy castle. All the servants were cleaning and tidying.

"Hello...?" Xanda greeted, curious. No one can see nor hear her. She is invisible. She went out of the room and found herself face to face with a man wearing royal cloths and a glowing crown. He is the King. Beside him, a charming lady sat on another throne, fussing over a crying baby.

"Shh... Don't cry, dear! Mama's right here." She comforted the baby boy in a gentle voice.

"Why is he crying?" Asked the king, "Baby Judars, Shhhh..."

The queen ordered a servant to take the baby to the baby room. Xanda backed away, afraid the servant will see her. But Whooooooops! Xanda tripped on the carpet and yelped.

"Who's that?" The king asked sharply. He pulled up a shining ball and threw it on the ground. "Omi, Omi, show your power to whoever in this room. Viola!" And the ball immediately spotted Xanda and made her visible in front of the king. "Trespasser!" The ball shouted. Xanda gasped. The king stood up immediately and marched smartly to Xanda.

"Arghhh! I'm not a spy or anything you're thinking of!" Xanda screamed. The king smiled a little.

"So... You said you're not who I'm thinking of? So you're not Damasira  Kompar's daughter Xanda?" The king asked Xanda. The girl gasped in surprise and bowed down low to the king.

King Adam! The most wonderful pleasure in my life to meet King Adam III of Rondov!

The queen examined Xanda and silently motioned her husband to her. The queen, Naila of the Flowerine Nation, whispered something and the king looked alerted!

"You got the sign! The warrior sign! O great warrior, though you don't know who you are, I'll tell you now. You have the sign of a warrior, when you grew up, you will be a fearless warrior higher than any king in the world!" King Adam explained to the future warrior, Xanda. Xanda sighed. Things can't be more complicated for her...

The Story of Sonata the Dog

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

 February 9, 1091

The story you are reading is written by one of Sonata's master. Perhaps you will know who I am at the end of the story. Anyway, that's not important. This story is about our dear Sonata's life.

Our Father, Pop, as we called him, had a train accident and died when I was young, so poor Mother had to work harder in order to provide food and clothing for the starving family. There's Saima, the oldest sister, then Nico, Richard and Rachel, this two are twins, they always stick together and speak at the same time, so we call them Ri-chel. Then there's Nancy, the youngest. Our dear Mother worked as an artist, and she would draw our favorite things in our birthday cards. I received a drawing of Sydney last year, and this year, I got a map of Australia with cute little pictures in it. Beside the map there's a question. It says:

I have trees but no leaves,
and I have lakes but no water in it.
What am I?

It's very obvious, the answer is MAP.

Yesterday, our house was robbed in the middle of the night. Mother was extremely upset and cried, because Pop's portrait was stolen too. We were upset as well, and Nancy cried for hours. Our belongings were gone, so Saima was very angry. We must wear our pajamas for days, for Mother does not have enough money for those things.

When we were alone in our bedroom, Saima called a meeting. We always do that when we're alone, discussing how to improve our lives.

Saima said, "We must cheer Mother up, dear brothers and sisters."

"We must think of a plan to protect our house from robbers." Nico said, rubbing his chin.

  "But HOW?" came a boy-mix-girl-voice.

  "Think, Ri-chel, THINK!"

We were quiet for some times, until Rachel whispered something into her twin's ear.

"We got it!" They chanted together, "Adopt a dog!"

"Yeah, like in the game "Adopt Me"." Nancy added in her sweet, soft, charming voice.

"Oh yea? Great idea, but not enough money." Saima grumbled.

"If we add our money together, there will be enough money" Chorused Richard and Rachel.

I thought it's a nice idea, and everyone agreed. The twins were pleased.

CHAPTER TWO: THE ARRIVAL OF SONATA

 February 10, 1091

The next day, we poured our money box on the playroom floor, and counted them one by one carefully.

  "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7..Finished? Aw, 7 shillings will never do!" wailed Nico.

"We'll borrow a dog then!" sang the twins, "from Mr. Morgan!"

Mr. Peter Morgan was their friendly neighbor. He ran a pet shop in Victoria Lane. Nico volunteered to go to Mr. Morgan's place and promised he will not be greedy and selfish to choose a expensive breed. Off he went, straight to Morgan's Marvelous Shop.

  "Hello, Mr. Morgan!"

"Yo! Natty Nico in my shop! Now, boy, how can I help you?" smiled Mr. Morgan kindly, his face screwing up when he smiled widely.

Nico explained to Mr. Morgan what happened yesterday night, how the twins thought of a plan, "So please, Mr. Morgan, would you mind lending us one of your dog? Please?" The boy pleaded.

"Why not? Follow me-e-e!!" sang Mr. Morgan.

The kind old man showed Nico to the pet room and there he saw a lots of cute doggies. "May I ask, Mr. Morgan, which one is best for a guard dog?" Asked Nico politely. Morgan introduced Nico to a young, female but protective German Shepherd, Sonata.

"Sonata is eight months old, almost nine, and he can do all kind of tricks! Watch!" Mr. Morgan turned to the staring dog and commanded him, "SIT! Sit, Sonata, Sit, for a nice little treat!" and waved a biscuit in front of him. Sonata obediently sat down and gobbled up the biscuit his master threw for him. "Good Girl." whispered Nico.

"Do you like Sonata? Would you like to have her?"

"Yes!!! Yes please, Mr. Morgan PLEASE! I will pay you when I got the money!"

"Tut! Tut! It's free, Nico, have a nice day!" said Morgan kindly, and away Nico went.

All my brothers and sisters were very excited when Nico returned home. The Twins took Sonata out and stroked him, patted him, and kissed him. Sonata was shy, but soon he began to jump and leap around us. Mother was surprised, but pleased with the twins, she promised she will make time to create a cardboard kennel for Sonata. We were very glad the twins thought of this plan, because Mother was never so happy since Father's accident.

CHAPTER 3: SONATA DISCOVERED THE THIEF

Sonata was nervous when she arrived in our house. She hid under the crumpled sofa whenever someone come towards her. Fortunately, after several weeks later, Sonata got familiar with us and allowed herself to be carried, fed, and scratched. Mother cheered up a lot while Sonata was with us. She soon forgot that our house was robbed, so everything was fine.

One scorching afternoon, I was playing with Sonata in the little garden in front of our cottage, when the little German Shepherd began to sniff round and round the rotting gate. "What's up?" I asked her. Sonata barked sharply, began to growl... Then suddenly she pranced up to a lilac bush beside us and I heard someone squealed.

"Let go, you brute, let go of my arm!" the Voice yelled. I was alarmed! Sonata pulled someone from the bush to me and set a paw on the man.

"Who are you?" I asked with a kick on his bottom, "Why are you spying on me?" The man rolled with terror, but I held him tight.

"None of your business!" he hissed, "Let go! Your hands are filthy and wet with dog fur and saliva!"

"Why are you spying on me? Who are you?" I'm much too scared, so I decided not to pinch his arm.

I got him to stand up and walked him to our living room. Mother was free and she was making tea in the kitchen. "Mother! MO-THER!" I called, "I found a man spying me and Sonata in the garden!" Mother rushed out, leaving her warm coffee on the table.

"My, my, what a surprise! Thomas Higgs! Didn't I tell you not to come near me ever again? Didn't you solemnly promised my husband that you will try not to do bad deeds?" After she said it she cried bitterly.

"Mother!" I cried, as the others leave their game and came tumbling down the stairs, "You know this man? How do you know he's the thief who robbed our house?"

"Why, ducky-love, Yes! He's our gardener when you're such a little baby. " Mother wept, "He stole our bank card, and your Pop was furious with him. He sent the theif away, of course, and Pop forced him to promise he won't steal again."

I sighed. Meanwhile, Sonata trotted into the room and dropped something on the floor. "Frank's ring! You stole Frank's ring, too! You know what, Thomas? I going to send you to the police station until you're safely behind the bars!" I never saw Mother so angry in my life. "Saima love, will you do me a favor and ring up the police?" I nodded (Have you guessed who's the writer? Me, Saima, of course!). "RI-CHEL AND NICO! COME HERE AND HELP ME TO KEEP THE THIEF ON THE SOFA!" Mother ordered.

I snatched my bike and swung my legs furiously round and round the pedals. Soon I reached the village police station. A police officer, Sir Rafael, whom we knew very well, was pacing back and forth in front of the door. I ran to him and explained quickly what happened, and he at once ordered a police car to be prepared in 1 minute. Sir Rafael invited me to ride with him in the police car and we set off in a blazing speed. Mother was uneasy and restless until the police arrived, and she scolded the sly thief a great deal when he was behind the cold, damp bars...

CHAPTER 4: MARYBELLE'S SAD STORY

Some weeks after we discovered the thief, Mother was please because she sold seven paintings in two days. She gave us some nickels and sent us off to the beach. We skipped along, holding each others' hands joyfully. About fifteen minutes later, we arrived at the glorious beach!! Everyone there were bathing, playing, and burying their fathers. Then I noticed someone walking miserably behind us.

"Marybelle!" I called to the sad, sad girl, "Oh, Do you remember me? Do you?"

The dirty girl nodded heavily and sighed, "Yes, of course.. You're Saima of the Shallow River." She managed to show a weak smile.

"Why are you so miserable? Aren't you happy to meet us?" Nico asked.

Marybelle sniffled, "Well.. w-well.. I guess I'm gonna explain what happened now..." Marybelle began to tell her story, "My mother died when my sister was several months old, as you know, Saima, so Daddy took care of us. L-last year, m-m-my Daddy took me and A-A-- Annabelle, my sister, to a hotel c-called Chalet. We had fun there until... ACHOO! ACHOO! A-A-A....CHOOOOO! Sorry!"

I passed her a handkerchief and she continued the story, "Thank you Saima... You're kind... Where am I just now? Oh yes.. We had fun at the Hotel until Daddy received a message from a bank.. Telling him.." Then Marybelle burst into tears, "The horrible message told him... He-....He is under arrest because of stealing the b-bank... Few minutes later five police cars were parked beside our car and Daddy was arrested! A police officer took me and Annabelle to a nursery where a mean nurse cared for us. We never had good, healthy food and soft beds since Daddy got arrested. We visited Dad twice a week and every time we visit him, he said the polices will come and beat him each day until he told them where the stolen money were... But he has no idea about it!"

She stopped for a while and blew her nose noisily on the big purple handkerchief, "Brrrrrrrrrrr!! The last time we visited him, we saw him being smacked and jabbed ruthlessly by a spiky, metal stick. He was bleeding and crying out for mercy, but no one listened to him. Annabelle ran away but I couldn't leave my dearest Daddy alone! I can't stand it any longer any longer, so I ran away too. When I go back to the prison room, my Daddy's prison was empty. In a dark corner lies my father, unconscious. A cleaner came to me a told me, 'Your Dada is dead, go back home.' I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EARS. Dad don't even know where the stolen money was! That day my father died, my innocent, hardworking, honest father, died."

She stopped and ran off, leaving us staring into each other blankly. Such a sad, hard life... Poor Marybelle and Annabelle!

"We must find Marybelle and her sister a good, caring home. No matter what!" I announced, and others vowed to help Marybelle, too.

CHAPTER 5: A NEW FATHER, SEBASTIAN

We hanged around the beach till the afternoon. Nancy ate hundreds of ice-sticks. The twins stuffed themselves with  CheezyRing Snacks. Sonata galloped around, seizing each and everyone's feet, and licked some leftovers given by kind souls. How the greedy pup enjoy the fuss about him! People stroked, patted, and tickled her fur. I bathed all morning with Nico, with Nancy digging around, building sandcastles.

Soon it was lunch time. We went home, chattering and clattering nonstop about our joyful morning. We gobbled up our lunch eagerly, slurping the delicious tomato soup cooked with Mother's love and care. BURP! I'm quite full! We waited for young Nancy to finish her boiled potato. Once she had finished, we held another meeting in the nursery, this time, it's not about our own lives, but poor Marybelle.

"So.. Do you guys have some ideas?" I said, taking charge of the meeting.

"Ideas about what?" Asked Richard, who never paid attention to anything.

"Ideas about improvements for the Belle Sisters, stupid!" Nico snapped, tired of Richard.

"Don't be angry, Nic, He's just asking!" protested Richard's twin sister.

"You three better not start a fight in here!" I warned.

"Nah, You Stupid, why do I have to listen to you? Espe..." Nico stopped because Mother suddenly popped her head excitedly behind the door, "Darlings! You know what?"

"I wonder if anyone heard of knocking!" I said, "Never mind, Mum, Whassup?"

"Well, sorry for disturbing y'all, loves, but listen! I got a letter from a young man called Sebastian Clarke, asking me if I would marry him! So, duckies, what do ya think?" Mother announced, waving a yellow letter in front of us.

We tilted our heads, and Sonata put up a paw as if she don't understand. "Oh well. It's like this." Mother explained, discouraged by our puzzled faces, "Sebastian is a strong, hardworking, courageous young Christian man, who attended me and your Father's wedding. When he talked to me, I noticed his voice sounded exactly like my Father, who is your Grandpapa's voice. And what's more, He had my brother Justin's face. He often sent me letters, telling me funny stories and jokes. When your Pops died, he donated us 5 million dollars! At the funeral, he told me he would be flying to Egypt to make a irrigation project. He went for 14 years and returned last week. Today he sent me a letter and asked me if I would marry me!"

Our expressions brighten at the thought of having a new Father and agreed with Mother that he would make a good father. Sonata nodded her brown head in agreement, making us laugh.

A few days later, the wedding ceremony occurred. Uncle Mike and Aunt Barbara, Uncle Adrian, Aunt Doris, Cousin Peter, and many other relatives attended the delightful wedding. Mother looked beautiful, charming, and so much younger in her wedding gown. As for our new father, he certainly looked very kind and strong. Mother and Father were a pair! Holding each other's hand, they approached to us.

"Darlings, meet your new father!" Mother smiled.

We said hello happily and invite the new Daddy to eat with us. What a glorious feast!  Hams, carrots, mushroom soup, and so on. Father joked with us, pretending he was a monster, with carrots in his eyes and two broccolis for the monster's ear. How we laughed! We returned home at the evening, riding in Father's red Rolls-Royce.

CHAPTER 6: NEW SISTERS -- AND A FRIEND FOR SONATA

The following morning, as the sun lazily rose up the purplish-blue sky, I leaped out of bed. Arghh! Wait!! Why is my bed suddenly so high! Erm...? What happened to my bedroom? Our old humble bedroom turned into a merry, bright room! My bed with the ragged bedcover turned into a princess's pinkish bunk bed! Below me, Nancy slept peacefully. Richard and Rachel snored softly beside me, on the other bunk bed. Nico was nowhere to be seen, because his bed, a prince's bed, was empty. I carefully climbed down the ladder of my bunk bed and ran outside.

Outside our bedroom, there's a corridor leading to another bedroom, probably Mother and Father's. The corridor continued forward, going to a spiral staircase. I went down and found myself in a beautiful sitting room, garnished by some flowers and tons of rugs. There's also three frame with cute little paintings. I walked on, and discovered a washroom, an opening to the garage, and the kitchen! Father, Mother and Nico sat on three little stools, munching at some peanut butter sandwiches. Sonata snored lazily beside the sink and her ears perked up as I stroke her smooth fur.

"Morning, Saima!" Father called, "Want some coffee? Juice? Or chocolate drink?"

"Morning, Dear, sit down and let me get you some breakfast." Mother smiled, rising up from her chair, "Would you like peanut butter, butter, or strawberry jam?"

"Morning, Dad. Morning, Mom. Morning, Nico. I would like a strawberry jam and a cup of apple juice, please!" I said, plopping myself down on an orange stool. "What happened to our bedroom, Mother? Did you and Father moved our house?" I asked.

Mother made no reply, so new Father said, "This is my house, and we carried you five children to this house last night. My scullery maid left last week when I return to London, so I decided you guys can sleep there." "It's quite big, isn't it?" He added, grinning at Mother. Mother placed my breakfast down the table, and I said grace and began to eat.

"Tomorrow will be Sunday and we will go to a new church to worship." Mother told me, "It's called St. Paul Methodist Church. Oh! Goody Morny, Richard! Where's Rachel?" Richard suddenly show up at the kitchen door. Sonata leaped up at once. She liked Richard the most, who knows why.

"Mornin' Everyone! Rachel won't wake up." He said, pushing Sonata down his shoulders. Mother gave him a butter bun; she knew it's his favorite. But alas! The butter bun slipped down Richard's hand when he hold it up, because it's very oily. "Ooooooooooops! Sorry!" Richard the Tomato bent down and began to crawl on all fours under the table. "Where's the bun? It's not under here!"

"It's up here!" Father laughed, waving the butter bun under the table, "Come and get it!" But when Richard crawl up to father, he threw it under the table again. Richard groaned. He picked it up himself, said his prayer, and started munching his bun. Later Rachel and Nancy came to join us in our breakfast.

After a healthy, delicious breakfast, I called for a meeting. "Dear Ladeez and Gentlemen! Welcome to our meeting!" I annouced. Everyone cheered. Then I started to call out names and they should raise their hands or say "At Present".

"Nico Andrews!" I shouted. A hand shot up. Good. "Richard!" "Rachel!" "Nancy!" Lastly, there Sonata. " Sonata!" A couple of barks echoed around the room. "One bark only pleaz, Sonata!" Giggled Nancy.

"So everyone's here, mhm? Let's begin our meeting. Take your seat, grab some biscuits and drinks!" I said, "This meeting today is about the Belle Sisters. Our last meeting was disturbed by the glorious news of a new father." I stopped and felt a lump in my throat. The thought of my real Father make me sad. I gulped then sniffled. "We must think of a way to help them, any ideas?" I continued. A hand shot up once more.

"Me, me please, Miz Andrews!" Nico said, "Get them to Mrs. Fredico, our neighbor's house! Mrs. Fedico would lik--" Rows of barks came out from the kitchen.

"My Goodness! Sonata's mad! I promise to give five million dollars to people who teach Sonata to bark softly!" Richard gasped, covering his ears tightly.

Sonata rushed into our meeting room, holding a old bracelet. I went to her and took the dirty, smelly bracelet and noticed words on it:

M-A-R-Y-B-E-L-L-E

What's this? Marybelle? Marybelle! Marybelle! MY friend's bracelet!

"Where's did you get it, Sonata?" Asked Nico, taking the bracelet from her mouth. Sonata raced out to the living room where father kept his working supplies. The little German Shepherd nosed through the tools and picked up a new, brown bag.

"Well? I can see this bracelet is founded by Father." I said.

"Let's fetch Father over! He'll know if it belongs to our friend. " said Richard and Rachel. So Nancy went to bring Father here, and when Father saw this bracelet, he burst out in excitement.

"Marybelle! She's my niece. Such a nice darling she is! But unfortunately, her father had died a week or more..." Sebastian sighed. I glanced up at Mother. To my surprise, she began to move restlessly on her chair!

"Do you guys think we can adopt them? We've got enough money now, and I hate seeing poor children wandering on the streets homelessly" she said. Father nodded solemnly and everyone at the table agreed with her. Mother, with our encouraging supports, made up her mind to fetch Marybelle and her sister from the nursery. Nico went with her because he had already finished his morning chores.

Half an hour later, Sonata trotted into the room and gave a short, sharp bark. Then she started pulling my pants as if she wanted me to follow her.

"What's wrong, girl? Want a walk?" Rachel spoke adoringly to Sonata. Wow. Brilliant. This is the first time I heard Rachel talk herself instead of talking together with her twin!

Sonata tugged at Rachel, so she went down with the little dog. I went down along, curious to find out what's happening. And... At the door stood Marybelle and Annabelle!

"Welcome Marybelle! Welcome, Annabelle! Welcome to our house!" I greeted them. Whoo! Our family's got two new members!

The Splendid Six - Six On a Holiday

CHAPTER 1: THE SUMMER'S HOLIDAY

Benjamin, Cora, James, and their parents were having breakfast on the table, and Oliver the Dog under the table. Today is Saturday and the children were excited. Daddy and Mother are planning to send them to Uncle John and Aunt Jenny's house!

They are very fond of merry Uncle John and his son, Wilson, but Aunt Jenny was a bit hot-tempered, so they're afraid of her. "Make sure you stay polite and sturdy when you're in Uncle John's house! You know Aunt Jenny hates children and noises!" Daddy said with a laugh, "She sure will throw you out the window if you keep ignoring her!"

Benjamin laughed and said, "Well, throw us if she like, but she's so small! She can't even hold me up when I was a baby! And perhaps it's us who will throw her out the window!!!"

"Ben, please don't tease your aunt like that when you arrive at their house," scolded Daddy with a frown. "This is very impolite to tease or laugh at other people like that."

  "Yes Daddy." Ben murmured.

"So when are we going, Mother? Next week?" James asked, excited.

"Maybe We'll make it this Wednesday, if Daddy can manage, ducky-love," Mother said as a reply.

They discusses about it and decided they will leave in Thursday, because Mother suddenly remembered her friend invited her to a wedding ceremony.

Thursday seems to be Sooooooo long but it came at last. Benjamin leaped up from his bed and woke James. "C'mon, Sleepyhead, It's THURSDAY!" Ben Shouted in James ear.

James sat up and beamed at Benjamin. They raced out the corrido and woke Cora, who slept very late at night. She groaned and lied down again. "WAKE UP, CORA, IT'S THURSDAY!!! " James yelled and pounced on his younger sister. Young little Cora squeal loudly.

The children ate their breakfast rapidly, talking and laughing with each other. "It's half-past eight now!" Ben said, munching his bacon noisily. Mother frown, Daddy groaned, Cora and James scowled at him.

"Whoops, Sorry! I don't mean to munch so loudly, ER... I won't eat like that again," he said.

"You always say that," Mother complained, "But you never mean it! Look, there's your cereal crumbs falling on the floor again!"

Oliver licked the cereal crumbs happily, quite disagreeing with their mother. What? Eat politely without falling on the floor? NEVER! If nothing fall on the floor I'll starve!!! He gave a little bark to remind the children's parent he's still under the table. Daddy laughed a threw a biscuit for him.

Daddy took them to the train station and warned them to be careful and don't annoy Aunt Jenny. The train arrived and James scrambled up. Benjamin carried his sister up and went up himself. They waved madly to their father and departed. This is when the adventure of the Six started.

CHAPTER 2: A SCARY START -- AND A WONDERFUL COUSIN

They arrived at Nirrick's Neighborhood train station, hoping to see Wilson and his pet dog, Carlos, a funny looking mongrel. Unfortunately, they found Aunt Jenny at the station, frowning and groaning. "Hi Aunt J....Jenny..."said the children, half-afraid.

"Hi kiddies-monkeys! Get in my car! Quick, don't waste my time." said the bad-tempered aunt, who shoved the children into her car. That woman looks like an evil witch! She's so scary! Cora thought with a shiver.

Off they go (in a super fast speed), and the car suddenly stopped at Rose Cottage. "ARRIVED!! GET OUT KIDDIE-MONKEYS!!!" The witch-like aunt roared. They stumbled out the car and ran away. "STOP! You've messed up with my car belt! And the cushions!" She shrieked. Benjamin hurried back to the car and tidied up, wishing with all his heart that they didn't come.

When they all got into the house, the children's aunt rushed into her study and slapped the door behind her. "Oh, its that Jenny again! Just because she can't find the prove why is one plus one equals two! Why would she never close a door gently?" said a voice from upstairs, coming down the stairs. It was Uncle John!  "Ooh Hallo, darling kiddies! And Oliver too! Welcome to our house!" He grinned at the children, "Did Jenny scared you? She's a bit angry today. S'pity Wilson's still with his friends, He'll be back soon!"

Uncle John gave them some papers and pencils to draw while they're waiting for Wilson to return home. Cora accidentally dropped all the color pencils on the floor. Aunt Jenny burst into the room and yelled,

"HOW MANY TIMES SHALL I TELL YOU NOT TO DROP THING ON THE FLOOR?!?! STOP THAT ELSE I'LL THROW YOU OUT THE WINDOW!" Uncle John shouted back fiercely, "Jenny! YOU ARE MEAN AND UNKIND! IF YOU STOP BEING MEAN TO THE CHILDREN, WE PROMISE NOT TO BOTHER YOU ANY MORE! YOU HITTED POOR WILSON LAST TIME AND BROKE HIS ARM, YOU REMEMBER? I'LL CALL THE POLICE IF YOU DO THAT TO THESE CHILDREN!"

With that word POLICE, Jenny retreated back to her study. "That's done it." He comforted Cora, who was half-crying, "Shout back to her like how I do, and she'll not bother you!"

Wilson came back home at evening, with Carlos to his heel. They were panting after the football game with his fellow friends. "Hallo, who are they? Ooh! Hey Ben, Hey Jamsie old lad! How are you, little Cora? Woof Woof, Oliver, want a biscuit? Welcome to our house!" Wilson greeted them. Ben and James grinned back at him. Cora nudged Wilson and smiled, "Don't call me little Cora, Willy, I can't help being young, can I?"

Wilson laughed. They had a late tea and Uncle John prepared their supper. Wilson was busy showing them his house, Carlos trotting beside Wilson as usual. The supper bell rang, as they're exploring and examine the stuff in the storage. The little company darted to the dining room, sniffing in the air, trying to guess what had Uncle John cooked for supper.

"Mmm! Salmons, Broccoli, cheese, peach pudding.. Wow! Uncle John, you're an excellent cook!" They ate the delicious food and decided to ask Wilson to show them his dog statue collections. Wilson agreed, of course. He told them about how he rescued dogs and how he and the Search-And-Rescue dogs work together. Everyone thought Wilson is wonderful!

CHAPTER 3: AN UNEXPECTED VISITOR

It's bedtime now, but they wanted to explore the house a little more, so Uncle John let them. They ran through the corridor bumping and yelling like mad. Fortunately Aunt Jenny was out visiting a sick friend. Uncle John laughed and race along with them. What a Mess!! Oliver and Carlos barked, licking each other, and dodging many feet.

"Ring Ringggggggggggggggggg! Ring!" the bell rang, as loud as it can be.

"Oh dear! What a mess we've made! Aunt Jenny's back!!!" Everyone stumbled and roll about in panic. They tidied up quickly and their Uncle opened the door.

"Oh! It's not Aunt Jenny! Hallo, Sir! Who are you?" James asked politely.

"QUICK! LET ME IN, YOU STUPID COMPANY! THEY'RE AFTER MEEE!!!!" The man yelled. They let the madman in, and Uncle John questioned the man, "Who are you, and what happened? Who's after you?"

The man answered in a rather shaky voice, "My name is Douglas Andrews, a banker. Yesterday, when I'm counting my money, three men in black coats rushed in." He stopped to catch his breath.

  "Go on, Sir." Cora said.

"One of the men shouted at me, commanding me to return his money. I don't know what money, of course. so I said I don't know what he's talking about. He said I'm a thief, tricking him. I told them to clear out, but they won't. The man said I better return his money as soon as possible, else I'll be shot. This morning, I found that 1000 dollars are gone! I guess they've stole the money. Then, tonight when I'm driving home, the men run after me. So I came to your house."

"They sound like gangsters!" Benjamin exclaimed.

"Yes, you're right, young man." said Doug with a shiver.

CHAPTER 4: AUNT JENNY KIDNAPPED

"Okay. Mr. Andrews, will you go to sleep now and keep quiet? We're going to bed." Uncle John said with a yawn. They went to sleep, and the banker slept in the living room. Wilson put Carlos in the living room, in case the "gangsters" come after Mr. Andrews again.

Everything was quiet at night. Everyone were asleep. Well, almost everyone. Oliver slept with one ear crooked up, and Carlos was growling in his throat softly. He heard something. Yes, soft footsteps. "Grrrr... GRRRR!" Carlos growled, "GRRRRRRR!!" Mr. Douglas Andrews woke up with a jump, "what'sup, little doggie-woggie?" The half-asleep man tiptoed to the door and pressed his ears against the door. "Stup stup stup. PLONK! Ping! Calp, this way. " A voice whispered.

Who tripped? Who's that? Who's Calp? Wha-?Mr. Andrews thought. He listened for a few minutes and went to sleep again.

The morning came very quickly and the man told everyone what he had heard last night. Suddenly Ben cried, "Where's Aunt Jenny? She haven't return home from yesterday night till now!" but Uncle John only nodded and smile, "She'll be back in the afternoon, I think. She often return home late." They had a great time playing and joking with the new visitor. They laughed and ran and skipped in the garden along with the dogs. Mr. Andrews, which is now called by the children "Uncle Doug" (or Dog, if you prefer), sang and danced with them.

The afternoon came, but there's still no sign of Aunt Jenny. Everyone became worried of her and started wondering where is Aunt Jenny. Their uncle who was still jolly and comfortable asked the children why were they looking so "bittergourd-ish", they told him they're worried about Aunt Jenny. Uncle John looked worried and uncomfortable now, too! They decided to wait for her for one more day (One more day!? Ed.)  and if she still didn't come home, they'll go and search for her. At the evening, Ben and James went to do some gardening for Uncle John. When they opened the door, they saw a paper on the doorstep. It says:

We've got the woman in OUR hands.
If you want your woman back,
hand the man in your house to us.
Then your woman shall be released.
Make up your mind quickly
before we come to fetch the man ourselves.
Make up your mind FAST

Yours crossly,
Unknown

Ben read this note and look confused. "What is it, Ben? Tell me!" James said.

"I better show this to uncle first, Jamie. I don't understand this." Benjamin murmured. He showed this note to Uncle John, who screamed in horror.

"My Lord, NO! Jenny's kidnapped!!" shrieked Uncle John. "I suppose they discovered that we keep the man they want and tried to get Mr. Andrews back! Now, children. Listen to me! Our Aunt Jenny has been kidnapped because we hid the man they wanted in our house. So they caught Aunt Jenny as hostage when she return home last night to force us to give up the man for them! All they want is the man, Mr. Andrews!"

Everyone gasped and Mr. Andrews turned white, "Oh no... You won't hand me to the bad men, will you? I'm sure you won't!"

"We won't, and don't you worry. We'll take you to my friend Albert's house. You will be safe there." Uncle John assured him.

CHAPTER 5: CARLOS IS A HELP

That night, Wilson offered to take the dogs for their day's last walk. The others let him go and they went to bed. Cora fell asleep at once after all the dancing and singing with Mr. Andrews. Benjamin and James watched the stars twinkling in the night sky, not more than one minute they're asleep, too. The little cottage was very quiet. Meanwhile, as Wilson was tying Oliver to it's leash, Carlos sniffed on the ground for some treats he thought Wilson will give him. He smelt some familiar smell.

Woof Woof! What's this? Smells like the mean lady's smell! Why is she out at this time? Out for a walkie too? Carlos smelt the familiar smell and followed it. Wilson saw him and called, "Hoi! Carlos, where are you goin'? Hey, Come here!"

Carlos took no notice for once and keep on trotting away. Wilson ran to Carlos and caught it's leash. "Go, Carlie, Go. Take me to where the scent end and I'll see what it is" said the curious Wilson. Oliver followed behind them, puzzled. They walked for ten minutes and Carlos came to a stop. "Woof! Wuf Wuf!" Carlos barked. Wilson knelt down and squinted at the ground. "I forgot to take a torch with me! We'll come here tomorrow and check out what's interested Carlos." He said while he turned the dogs back.

(Dear readers, if you think this story need some improvement, please kindly give some suggestions in the comment function below. I will try to improve the story. THANK YOU! Ed.)

CHAPTER 6: A DISCOVERY

The sun rose up the next morning, waking everyone up. The children woke up early too, except for Wilson. Cora went to wake him up. "Wake up, Sleepyhead! I bet you return home late last night!" She called. Wilson groaned and covered his ears with a pillow. Cora continued screaming and yelling at him but he won't wake up, so Cora gave up. It was nine o'clock when Wilson woke up and he remembered all the events last night.

He tumbled down the stairs and cried, "Why didn't you wake me up, Dad? It's so late already!"

"Well well well! Our sleepyhead had finally woke up!" said Uncle John with a laugh. "Little Cora went to wake you up hours ago, but she complained you won't wake up! Sit down and eat your breakfast quickly, then go join them in the garden. I'll drive Mr. Andrews to my friend's house in the afternoon."

Wilson ate his breakfast and raced down to the garden. He told them about last night's story and they decided to go to the place with Wilson. They said Good-Bye to Uncle John and went to fetch their bicycles. Cora placed Oliver on her bicycle basket. Wilson tied Carlos' leash to his bicycle handle and they set off.

"What a wonderful morning!" Sighed Cora, "I want to sing loudly so that the whole world can hear me!"

And she began to sing her favorite song, "The Pretty Sun Resting on the Clouds" The children laughed.

"Cora! When can you get out of your babyish life!" Her big brother said. The cheerful party cycled into the woods where Wilson went last night. Carlos stopped and barked.

"We're here! Carlos stopped." Their cousin exclaimed, "Look, what's that? Is that a wheel print?" James bent down and observed the print carefully.

"Erm.. This print looks like a Rolls-Royce's print," He said, sketching it slowly, "I'll ask Joshua the garage boy if there are any Rolls-Royce in this district."

Wilson suggested to follow the wheel print and see where it leads, so they ride along the prints, with Carlos trotting along.

"Hey everyone, what is that?" Cora called.

"Mother's best handkerchief! Ben, come here, maybe the kidnappers bring Mother here, because there's her belonging beside the bushes!" Wilson cried.

CHAPTER 7: JOSHUA WAS A GREAT HELP

They arrived at Nirrick Garage and Joshua greeted them warmly.

"So, what bring you all here?" the garage boy asked, "We don't often have visitors, so it's good to have someone here. Ask anything you like!"

Benjamin asked him are there any Rolls-Royces in Nirrick's Neibourhood, but Joshua replied no, so there's no use asking him.

Then Joshua remembered something and said, "Aha! There's a Rolls-Royce driving by our garage the day before yesterday. The driver asked the way to White Hill. Yes. It's a Rolls-Royce alright.''

Wilson's eyes twinkled, "White Hill, did you say? I know that place. Thanks awfully, Joshua!"

"It's pretty far away, Willy." James remarked. No one paid attention to his remark, they're already mounting their bikes.

"A puncture!" Cora sighed, "Puncture, puncture, PUNCTURE! Always happen at this time!" She fixed it and they went away.

They rode away to White Hill, which is not very far away. It's a really hard work to ride up the hill, for it was very steep, so Cora took Oliver down from her bicycle basket.

"Do you think Mother is up the hill?" Wilson said, turning to Benjamin.

"I guess so, Wilson, because White Hill is not a popular place where a lots people visit it. Maybe Aunt Jen will be in one of the dungeons of the castle on White Hill!"

His cousin gulped, thinking his own poor mother, down in a smelly, old dungeon with no food or water.
Cora don't feel sorry for her Auntie. Instead, she feel quite please! So she decided not to say a word about it.

CHAPTER 8: CORA'S LITTLE ADVENTURE

Riding up a hill was not an easy job. The little party puffed and panted tiredly. They almost gave up! James slid down seven times, and Cora was even worst. She slid down the hill fourteen times and tumbled down her bicycle three times.

When she slid down for the eighteenth times, her back crashed on something cold and hard. "Goodness Gracious!" Poor Cora yelped. The boys turned around, and to their surprise, Cora was gone! "Where's Cora?" asked James. "I guess she's up to her mischief again. I won't fall for her silly prank this time!" Said Cora's big brother crossly, "CORA, COME OUT! STOP YOUR PRANK AND FOLLOW US!"

No Cora came up. Benjamin told the others to keep going, Cora will come up whenever she pleases.

Cora, however, had fell down a hole after her back got banged. "A hole! Why is this hole there?" The curious Cora said to herself, "Such a shame. I can't climb up the steep wall. Let me explore this place, up and down." So she began to walk to the tunnel on her right.

Wait a minute... Should I mark where I've gone through in case I got lost? She thought, running back to where she fell down. Cora always bring a rope along with her, because she knew it might come in useful. Haha! Benjamin said I'm a trash-collector, eh? Wait till he hears that my little rope was useful! She tied the long, long rope around her thin body and the rope will trace where she had gone. She walked and walked and walked, until her feet ached and she can't go anymore.

"Phew! What a long walk..." She panted, "I wonder what time is it. Let me go back." She turned around, but to her greatest horror, her rope was GONE!

Suddenly She heard a sound. A man's voice talking. The Voice said, "Little girl, little girl, where are you going?"

"That's no concern of yours!" said Cora bravely, although she can felt herself trembling a little.

"Is she a child, Calp? Let her go if she is. We want Douglas." another woman's Voice said.

"Mr. Doug! Why would you want him?" Cora asked. The two Voices laughed loudly and the sound echoed through the tunnel. Cora began to run, but a strong grip caught her hair tightly.

"LET ME GOOOO!! WHAT DO YOU WANT!?" Poor Cora shrieked.

"You know who is Douglas Andrews, do you? Tell us more 'bout him, missy!" How Cora kicked! How she howled! She kicked the man's leg and the grip released her. She stand up and said, "Did you took my rope? Return it to me NOW, or you'll be bite."

The frightened woman ran away, leaving her pal behind. The man gave Cora the rope, and she tied the rope on the man's arm. "You'll stay here, Mr. Coward. Fancy you scared of me! Stay here, Stupid Sir! Wait till the polices come to recue you! Muahahahaha!" Cora said rudely to the man (Who is called Calp) , "Goodbye, and Good Riddance!"

CHAPTER 9: POOR AUNT JENNY RETURNING HOME

Cora used the rope as a ladder for her to climb up the hole, but the others are nowhere to be seen. It was already evening, so Cora ran home, excited to share the news. When she returned home, no one was there! No Mr. Doug, no Uncle John, no Wilson, and her brothers were not there as well. Only two dogs were there, tied together, and whining sorrowfully. "What happened, Oliver?" Cora asked the dog, though she knew it won't answer her. Oliver whined and Cora saw blood flowing rapidly from Carlos's poor chest. She gave a little cry of horror and  quickly bent down to bandage Carlos's bleeding chest. She untied them and bathed Carlos, who was now gasping for breath. Oliver watched solemnly beside its master, licking its doggy friend's nose.

Soon Carlos was much better, so Cora went to investigate where the others were. "HANDS UP! SURRENDER OR I SHOOT!" Cora recognized the voice at once! The coward woman who ran for her life in the dark tunnel! "Ahar, so that's you, huh? You surrender, not me. I'm armed to the teeth! I got a revolver here too, stupid!" The young but brave girl shouted. The unarmed opponent surrendered at once, which is very stupid of her. Cora snatched her revolver at once, and pointed it at the enemy. "What's your name, Coward? Is your name... Mrs. Coward? Hahaha!!"

"That's not my name, girl! " The woman replied angrily.

  "Then what's your name?"

  "Miranda." was the answer.

  "Surname, Miranda Coward!"

  "Not Coward, You, it's McKinney."

  "McKinney, it is?"

  "Yes."

"Where's my aunt and family and friends? Tell or die?"

  "Tell"

So Miranda showed her her family. They were in the tunnel where brave Cora met the coward man! My, my, you should see how glad and thankful they were! Uncle John slapped Cora on the back, and the others called her their Hero of the Day. As for Aunt Jenny, who was trapped in the tunnel with them, said nothing at all. But she looked very solemn and burst into tears when Cora hugged her tightly.

"I'm so very. very sorry about how I treated you, dear!" she wept, "I will never do it again to anyone of y'all."  Cora smiled and took them back to the house. Uncle John called the police to catch the evil criminal at once. The police came in no time and went to the tunnel. Cora took them to Calp, the coward man, as Cora called him.

They begged for mercy and swore that they won't do it ever again, but Cora said, "You two showed me no mercy, so I shan't show you any! You shall be thrown into jail and eat mice for the rest of your lives!" Everyone cheered, laughed, and praised Cora for her nice and rude speech.

The police handcuffed the kidnappers, then carried them away, for Calp was sulking and refused to walk. Ponk! Calp was too heavy, and the policeman felled. "Oof!" cried Calp, who had fallen into a dumpster. After a few minutes, the criminals were safely behind bars. The Splendid Six and family celebrated all night happily. Goodbye, Splendid Six, and PLEASE promise to share your next adventure with us! GOODBYE!
